I've heard of Tesla having some type of mysterious pet fireball that he would randomly present at will.  Is there anything published about this?

The "fireball" account that you heard about can be traced back to the article " The New Wizard of the West" which appeared in the May 1899 issue of Pearson's Magazine, London.  Part of this article can be found on pages 3-4 of the Tesla biography titled Tesla — Man Out of Time.  Tesla himself discussed the production of fireballs or ball lightning in his Colorado Springs Notes written at the time of his 1899 wireless propagation experiments.  See also Ball Lightning & Tesla's Electric Fireballs.
